Hello from Perth, Ontario, Canada

I can trace my ancestors back to william who lived in Kentucky and

and William

Comments:
This is the spelling our family has used but I feel sure it
interfaces with Cottingham. In our family cemetary in East Burnstadt,
Ky near London, Kentucky there are various spellings used there,
Cottingim, Cottongim, Cottingham etc. other Family names are the
George Family, Stillings, Rudder, to name a few. The Cottingim
families, some which migrated north to Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois,
are alive and well and still have large family reunions, each year at
Christmas, and during the summer.
Comments:
Comments:
We trace our roots back to a William Cottingim, from SC. Our
reference only states that he died soon after returning from the War
of 1812. His Widow relocated to Clay County, Kentucky, and later to
Laurel County, KY.
Comments:
It occurred to me that just saying Sarah might be confusing since
there are so many Cottinghams with the same first name. Sarah's family
tree: Sarah Cottingham Cook married Obediah Cook Charles Cottingham
Jonathan Cottingham II Jonathan Cottingham George Cottingham I have no
information on Sarah's mother, Charles' wife.
Comments:
Hi, My 4 great grandparents were Sarah Cottingham and Obediah Cook.
They had a son Royal Stokely Cook born 4/3/1821. Royal married Judith
Hipps and they had a son Marcus Delus Lafayette Cook. Royal and his
family took an oxen train from North Carolina to Texas in 1868. It
took them nine months. There Marcus Delus had a daughter Etha Cook
Compton who had a daughter Edna Compton Woolever. Edna moved to
California and had a daughter, Janice Woolever LaFortune who was my
mother. A side note. Royal's ol est son James was killed in the Civil
War. His son William Royal was severly wounded in the belly but
survived. He became an outrider for wagon trains, (those who scout)
and it was he who pursuaded the family to "go west".
Comments:
I don't really know my ancestry. My grandfather was adopted but I'm
told it was by his fathers sister. My true family history is probably
with the Cottingham line, but talking with my grandparents has yielded
few clues to the true nature of my ancestry. I would like to find out
more. My grandfather was William Bryan Cottingham, Sr. I was raised in
Tennessee all of my life until I joined the Navy 3 years ago. I am
currently living in Hawaii. If anyone has any information, please
email me. Thank you ery much

Very much enjoyed the visit. someday would like to do one of these

I would very interested in being able to trace my ancestry as far
back as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dont remember if i signed the guestbook before. Im not that great
on the computer, I'm teaching myself. I would like a copy of will
showing Elijha as son of Thomas Cottingham. Also would like to find
Mary F. Cottingham Reynards research on the Cottingha s. She was DAR
member. Shes probably dead now, but i dont know. Stephen M. Cottingham
in Indpls, told me she did the research. Still working on the Indiana
Connection to Elijha and Dryden and William G.Cottingham .

I live in Indianapolis, Ind. and have been searching the parents and
their line. Stephens parents were William Cottingham in Hamilton Co.
in 1840 when Stephen was born. He probably died in 1840s and Stephen
and his brothers were living in other homes as c ildren. Elizabeth
Wall the mother must have remarried or followed her mother, who might
have been in IOWA in 1850 census. Stephen married 2nd wife Nancy Ann
Kimble Their daughter Emmiline Cottingham was my husbands grandmother.
She married Albert Helfer nd died in Tipton Co. IN. in 1935. I have
had good data from Elayne Cottingham in Co. and other Cottinghams.
Thanks

through some of the messages. I even saw the names of a couple of
cousins. My niece, Stacey Carter, said that this is addictive; she may
be right. Our family settled in Maxton, NC--ther 's a Cottingham
Street there. I look forward to learning more about our widespread
family. Thanks to all who sent E-Mail messages to my mother at
Christmas.

My 4th great grandfather was Thomas Henry Cottingham who was born on
in 1850 in Coningsby, England. His father was William Cottingham who
was born in 1821 at Coningsby England he married Mary Sharp William's
faher was Thomas Cottingham who was born around 1795 in England. He
married a woman named Elizabeth. We have not been able to go further
on this line any info would be appreciated. Great Website!

Hey...Well, as you can see, I'm a Cottingham, and I have no idea if
these are the Cottinghams that came to Canada too..supposedly my
ancestor, whose name i don't even know, came to virginia circa 1635,
then fled to Canada...he was part of the imperial loy lists..that's
all I know. Anyone want to help me? I'd appreciate it...
Comments:
My grandfather was J G Cottingham, due to my grandmother being
illiterate my father was registered as John George Cottenham. This has
remained the family surname since then
Comments:
I really enjoyed finding this web page and learning some information
about my ancestors. I am trying to find if there is any Native
American ancestors in our lineage. Thank you, this is great. Gayle
Comments:
It is a pleasure to come to know of so many other Cottingham's. I can
trace my linage back to Peter Cottingham who was born in Bibb Co. AL
on May 29 1856, but I have been unable to find out who his parent
were. Peter stated that his parents were from So th Carolina, but that
is all the information I have about them. I would love to find my
direct connection to Thomas and George. Peter married Theodosia White
and had 2(?) children Monte, and Vern. Vern changed his name to
Cottingame either for pronunci tion sake or because of a family fight.
I have heard both stories. If anyone has information on Peter or his
parents, I would love to hear from you.
Comments:
I am so thrilled that I have found you. I have been tracing
Cottinghams for quite some time, and I do have information about Sarah
Ann Cottingham , her father being Judge Joshua Cottingham. I do have a
picture of her. She married William Irwin, and I w uld love it if I
could find information like this about the Irwins too. I would be
happy to share what I have, but I feel it will be a drop in a bucket
compared to what I am about to find on this site. Bless you for doing
this. Maude Haeger

Columbus, OH, (Montgomery County) 1870 Census lists brothers John and
Martin Naddy, from the Kilkenny town of Graiguenamanah, with their
families. They immigrated to Baltimore in 1849, John in March on the
Chanango, out of New Ross and Martin in May on e John Bell, also out
of New Ross. I descend from their older sister, Margaret Naddy and
Mathew Daly who also sailed on Chenango, and stayed in Maryland. John
Naddy's daughter Catherine, b. in Columbus in about 1858, married
Patrick Cottingham there. T e Maryland family had passed down a record
of this marriage. It is confirmed by the 1900 census record that shows
Patrick Cottingham on North 4th St., Columbus. Born Ohio, age 41 (born
3/59) with wife Catherine, age 38 (born 10/61) and children Charles C
(4 92); Emerson J. (6/93); Catherine (2/96); and Harold (8/98). Listed
in the Patrick Cottingham household are also: Elizabeth H. Naddy, age
25; Marguerite Naddy, age 23, and Charles M. J. Naddy, age 21.
Margaret/Marguerite Naddy is listed with Patrick in 19 0, as is the
apparent widow of Charles M. J. Naddy, with their daughter Margaret.
Family history indicates that Patrick and Catherine's daughter,
Catherine Cottingham married Gerard Berry, who was associated with
some boat works in the Columbus area. Whet er this Patrick Cottingham
is a descendant of the colonists or a Irish famine immigrant like the
Naddys, I do not know, but this gives you a few more Ohio family
members. Jer German
